Rebecca de Pont Davies

Having recently sung her first Klytemnestra (opposite Susan Bullock) for Opera North, Rebecca de Pont Davies is establishing her credentials as an international artist of the highest order.  Michael Kennedy of 'Opera' hailed her portrayal as "striking," while Hugh Canning of the 'Sunday Times' claimed, "...Bullock gets superb support from her excellent co-stars...Rebecca de Pont Davies's crazed Klytemnestra".  Born in London, she made her debut with Glyndebourne Festival Opera in Britten DEATH IN VENICE. She later made her debut with English National Opera as Emilia OTELLO and went on to join ENO as a Company Principal. Her many roles during this time included Ulrica UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, Mistress Quickly FALSTAFF (a role she also recorded for Chandos Records), Mrs Sedley PETER GRIMES, Genevieve PELLEAS ET MELISANDE, Annina DER ROSENKAVALIER,  Flosshilde DAS RHEINGOLD, Siegrune DIE WALKURE and Page SALOME (also recorded for Chandos Records). She created the role of Suzanne in the world premier of Martin Butler A BETTER PLACE; sang Orlofsky DIE FLEDERMAUS and Moksada in Parem Vir SNATCHED BY THE GODS for Scottish Opera; and Gaea DAPHNE, Die Muschel DIE AGYPTISCHE HELENA.

Her concert appearances have included performances with many of Britain's leading orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra (with whom she recorded Nicholas Maw ‘Scenes and Arias'), the London Sinfonietta, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia and the English Chamber Orchestra. International performances include de Falla El Amor Brujo and Seven Popular Spanish Songs with Symphony Nova Scotia in Canada and Alma Mahler's Four Early Songs with the Sinfonica del Valle in Cali, Colombia. An enthusiastic exponent of contemporary music, she has appeared with Lontano and the Endymion Ensemble in works such as Henze El Re del Harlem, Berio Folksongs, Judith Weir Consolations of Scholarship and with the London Sinfonietta, she sang Wife in Mark Anthony Turnage GREEK as part of the BBC's Momentum series at the Barbican.

Recent engagements include Mrs. Sedley PETER GRIMES in Valencia; Mother in the world premier of Jonathan Harvey WAGNER DREAM for De Nederlandse Opera, Luxembourg and Paris; Beroe in Henze THE BASSARIDS at Theatre du Chatelet; Mother Goose THE RAKE'S PROGRESS for Opera Oviedo; Maddalena RIGOLETTO for Opera North; Auntie in ENO's new production of PETER GRIMES, directed by David Alden; Flosshilde GOTTERDAMMERUNG with Sir Mark Elder and the Halle; and her debut in Germany as Mrs. Sedley in a new production of PETER GRIMES for Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Dusseldorf.

Among her international credits are Mrs. Sedley PETER GRIMES in a new production at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona; Ismene in Luc Braeway ANTIGONE touring the Benelux as well as Vienna, Madrid and Budapest; Dritte Magd ELEKTRA for De Nedelandse Opera; and Old Sister 2 in John Browne BABETTE'S FEAST for The Royal Opera, Covent Garden.

Future plans include Auntie PETER GRIMES for Vlaamse Opera, role debuts as Die Hexe HÄNSEL & GRETEL and Herodias SALOME, both for Theater Bielefeld, the Beggar Woman SWEENEY TODD for Théâtre du Châtelet, and Auntie Kaye ANNA NICOLE for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
