Wioletta Chodowicz

Born in 1975 in Radom, Wioletta Chodowicz participated in the solo singing class of Professor Agata Mlynarska at the Karol Lipinski Academy of Music in Wroclaw  (graduating with honours in 2002). Her many awards and distinctions include first prize and a special prize at the Slavonic Vocal Music Competition in Katowice (2001); a special prize at the H. Darclee International Vocal Competition in Braila, Romania (2001); first prize and a special prize at the 7th National Vocal Competition in Duszniki-Zdrój (2002); a special mention at the 2nd Ignacy J. Paderewski Vocal Competition in Bydgoszcz (2003); finalist of the 5th International Stanislaw Moniuszko Vocal Competition in Warsaw (2004), at which she received a special prize for being the best performer of Halka's arias; semifinalist of the Maria Callas Grand Prix in Athens (2005); and finalist in the International Voice Competition "Concorso Di Stefano" in Trapani.

She made her debut in Poznan's Teatr Wielki in 2002 as Contessa LE NOZZE DI FIGARO. In 2003 - 2008 she was a soloist of the State Opera in Wroclaw where she appeared in the leading opera parts including Pamina DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, Fiordiligi COSI FAN TUTTE, the title role in HALKA (Moniuszko), Agathe DER FREISCHÜTZ, the title role in HAGITH (Karol Szymanowski) and Roxana KING ROGER.

The title role in Moniuszko HALKA was Ms. Chodowicz's debut at the Polish National Opera in Warsaw (November 2004). She returned to open the next season with the same role. Other highlights at the Polish National Opera include Marie WOZZECK and Donna Anna DON GIOVANNI.

For her artistic achievements in season 2005/2006, Wioletta Chodowicz was awarded with the Wroclaw Musical Prize for the Artistic Personality of the Year.

Ms. Chodowicz is equally at home on the concert platform, and her repertoire includes Fauré Requiem, Beethoven Symphony No. 9, Bruckner Te Deum, and Verdi Requiem. She has appeared at many music festivals including the International Chopin Festival in Duszniki-Zdrój, the Festival of Young Laureates of Music Competitions in Katowice, Musica Polonica Nova in Wroclaw. She sang Szymanowski Symphony No. 3: Song of the night for the Beethoven Festival in Warsaw, Gorecki Symphony No. 3 at Young Euro Classic Music Festival in Berlin and Mahler Symphony No. 2 with the Warsaw Philharmonic.

Recent higlights include the title role in RUSALKA and Tatyana EUGENE ONEGIN for the National Theatre in Prague. Already this season she made her UK debut as Marie WOZZECK for Welsh National Opera and Polish National Opera in Warsaw, performed the title role in RUSALKA in Lodz and her role debut in the title role of KATIA KABANOVA for Polish National Opera, working with director David Alden - a role that she will revive at the beginning of the 2010/11 Season. Future plans include Donna Anna DON GIOVANNI and Contessa LE NOZZE DI FIGARO,  for Polish National Opera, Wanda CZORSZTYN CASTLE in Warsaw and Beethoven Symphony No. 9 in Spain and Beethoven Choral Symphony at the Cervantino Festival in Mexico.
